Ajax beat FC Sion 5-3 in the Liga Conferência, coming from behind at Johan Cruijff Arena after W. Boteli had put the visitors in front. T. Arokodare scored twice and Ajax produced a three-goal spell either side of half-time, while Boteli still left with a hat-trick. A week earlier FC Sion had lost 2-4 at home to Ajax.

Match Summary

Y. Baas had Ajax in front after one minute, yet the lead did not last. FC Sion grew into the first half and W. Boteli scored twice, leveling and then putting the visitors 2-1 up by the 36th minute. Ajax answered before the interval. D. Klaassen, with L. Rosa the provider, restored parity, and T. Arokodare finished from A. Ouazane to send the hosts in 3-2 ahead.

The second half opened at the same tempo. Arokodare struck again six minutes after the restart, Ouazane involved once more, and O. Edvardsen added another with Caio Henrique assisting, making it 5-2. A further Ajax effort from Edvardsen was ruled out later and did not count as a goal. Boteli completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute, but the official scoreline remained 5-3.

Key Moments

Boteli's two finishes in the opening period were the first real swing. Ajax had scored immediately, then spent a long spell chasing after Sion went in front, which forced the home side to change the half rather than manage it.

The reply before the break mattered just as much. Leveling and then leading by half-time meant Ajax walked in ahead instead of protecting a deficit, and the next burst after the restart, two more goals inside the first ten minutes of the second half, stretched the gap to three and took the contest away from Sion.

The ruled-out effort from Edvardsen kept the official Ajax tally at five rather than six. Boteli's third at the end completed a hat-trick and trimmed the score, without altering the result.
