France beat Belgium 0-1 in the UEFA Liga das Nações, taking the points with a late goal after a long scoreless spell. The scorer was not listed in match data. France went into the match as the pre-match favorite and needed until the closing minutes to make that status count. Belgium could not find a reply.

Match Summary

There was no early scoring burst. Belgium and France went in at half-time still level. Diego Moreira was shown a yellow card in the 42nd minute, the only caution of the first half. Neither team scored before the break.

The second half opened with the same 0-0 scoreline. Kevin De Bruyne received a yellow card in the 57th minute, and Youri Tielemans was booked in the 66th. Belgium had three yellow cards by then. France had none. The hosts were still level when France scored in the 88th minute. The scorer was not listed in match data. That goal produced the official 0-1 result.

Key Moments

The winner arriving so late left Belgium no time to force an equalizer. That is why a single goal decided a match that had been even on the scoreboard for so long. Discipline was another swing. Yellow cards for Diego Moreira, Kevin De Bruyne and Youri Tielemans sat against none for France. France's edge in shots on target and expected goals meant they did not need a second goal once they finally scored.

Match Statistics

France took 18 shots to Belgium's 12 and put seven on target against two. Belgium's 12 shots included only two on target, a gap that proved costly while the game was still level. Expected goals favored France 1.15 to 0.63. The visitors also led on corners, six to two. All three yellow cards belonged to Belgium. There were no red cards. See more on AltBets live scores.
