Athletico Paranaense PR left Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos with a 3-2 win over Botafogo RJ in the Brasileirão - Série A, building a two-goal lead inside 13 minutes and then holding off a late home rally.

Match Summary

Athletico struck twice before the contest had settled. Joao Cruz had the visitors in front after 11 minutes, and K. Viveros doubled the lead two minutes later, with Dantas as the provider. Botafogo spent the rest of the first half trying to recover a foothold. Kauan Toledo was booked in the 35th minute, but the interval arrived with the visitors still two clear.

The second half followed the same pattern until the closing stages. Edenilson received a yellow card in the 68th minute, and Dantas was cautioned in the 77th. Almost immediately K. Viveros scored again, assisted by K. A. Calderon Vargas, and the lead grew to three. S. Rodriguez finally got Botafogo on the board in the 85th minute. K. Barria added another in the 90th, set up by Danilo Pereira, but Athletico saw the result through.

Key Moments

That opening burst decided the shape of the night, because Botafogo had to chase from two down and never dictated the scoreline even as they piled up attempts. The third Athletico goal, arriving just after Dantas went into the book, looked to have ended the argument with a little more than 10 minutes left. A late home surge turned a routine finish into a scramble, yet those replies came too late to take a point.

Botafogo controlled more of the ball with 55 percent possession to Athletico's 45 and produced 32 shots to 7, including 8 on target against 6.
