CA Union de Santa Fe beat CA Sarmiento 4-1 in Liga Profesional, as C. Tarragona scored twice and the hosts turned a one-goal half-time lead into a clear win. Union Santa Fe were in front from the first half and then scored three more after the break. J. Mavilla did get Sarmiento on the scoresheet, yet E. Ramirez replied before the finish and the result was settled.

Match Summary

Union Santa Fe needed only one chance of quality in the opening spell. C. Tarragona put them ahead with an assist from E. Giaccone, and the lead was still intact at half-time. Sarmiento stayed in the contest, yet they could not equalize before the break. J. Contrera was shown a yellow card in the eighth minute, and the visitors ended the first half still chasing the game.

After the restart the home side took the match away. Tarragona scored again just after the hour, I. Malcorra the provider this time, and a single-goal contest became a two-goal one. That change in the scoreline invited Sarmiento forward. Malcorra then finished himself, L. Ayala with the assist, and Union Santa Fe led by three. Sarmiento finally scored through J. Mavilla, a reply that arrived late enough to feel like damage limitation. E. Ramirez added another for Union Santa Fe shortly afterward, and the official result closed at 4-1.

Key Moments

Tarragona's second goal was the swing that decided the night. While the first-half strike put Union Santa Fe in front, the second forced Sarmiento to chase and opened the space Malcorra used to make it three. Those two goals in a short stretch, rather than a long siege, are why the match ran away from the visitors. Mavilla's goal briefly cut the deficit and gave Sarmiento a look at 3-1. Ramirez's answer minutes later removed that look, so the closing stages never turned into a genuine comeback.

Match Statistics

The score was lopsided. The territorial numbers were not. Sarmiento held 51 percent of possession to Union Santa Fe's 49 and put six shots on target against five, with four corners to two. Shots overall were 11 for Union Santa Fe and 10 for Sarmiento. Expected goals separated the sides more honestly, 1.25 to 0.48, which matches a night when Union Santa Fe converted the better chances. Yellow cards finished one for the hosts and two for Sarmiento, with no red cards shown.
