CA Velez Sarsfield 2-2 CA Platense: Match Recap and Result

CA Velez Sarsfield and CA Platense finished 2-2 in the Liga Profesional, a draw shaped by an early trade of goals and a late equalizer from the visitors. None of the four scorers were listed in the match data.

Match Summary

The contest opened in a rush. Velez had the lead after five minutes, though the scorer was not listed in match data. Platense needed only two more minutes to reply, and that goal also came without a named scorer. What had looked like a fast home start was gone almost immediately, and the rest of the first half passed without another goal. The teams reached half-time still level at one apiece.

Nine minutes after the restart, Velez went back in front. The 54th-minute strike, again with no scorer listed, put the home side in a position to control the remainder of the night. Platense had to chase. Late in the half the visitors picked up two yellow cards, first Tomas Silva in the 79th minute, then another Platense caution in the 84th with no player named in the data. The pressure told in the 88th minute, when Platense scored the equalizer. The scorer was not listed in match data, and the Liga Profesional meeting closed 2-2.

Key Moments

The opening burst mattered because it left neither side with a platform. Two goals inside seven minutes kept the match open instead of letting Velez settle in front. Velez's second-half lead then became the central question of the night: whether the home side could hold a one-goal advantage for more than half an hour. For a long stretch the score stayed that way. Platense's reply in the closing minutes flipped the story. It turned a home lead into a draw after the visitors had fallen behind twice. The late cautions did not change the score, but they marked the spell when Platense were forcing the issue.

Match Statistics

The shot count was even, two attempts for Velez and two for Platense, and corners were split four each. Expected goals pointed the other way. Platense registered 2.64 to Velez's 1.39, a gap that fits a night when the visitors recovered twice. Velez finished with no yellow cards. Platense received two. Neither team saw a red card.
