Santos SP beat Corinthians SP 0-1 in Brasileirão - Série A, taking a first-half goal from C. Oliva and then holding off a home side that had most of the ball but almost none of the clear chances.

Match Summary

At Neo Química Arena, Corinthians SP started on the front foot and spent long spells in Santos territory. The visitors stayed organized, and the contest remained tight through the opening half hour as neither side found a way through.

C. Oliva had Santos in front after 33 minutes, finishing the only goal of the match and giving the away side a lead they never surrendered. Corinthians SP answered with more pressure before the interval, but the scoreline stayed 0-1 at the break.

The second half followed the same pattern. The hosts kept pushing, stacking corners and attempts, while Santos SP sat deeper and looked for moments on the counter. Corinthians could not turn control into an equalizer. Santos saw the game out for a 0-1 away win.

Key Moments

That single conversion was the swing that decided it, because Santos created less of the game and still found a way to score first. From there the visitors only needed to stay compact.

Corinthians SP's finishing gap mattered just as much. Sixteen shots produced a single effort on target, so the home attack never forced Santos into a scramble to protect the lead.

Santos were more efficient at the other end, putting four of seven shots on target and posting the higher expected-goals figure. That clinical edge, plus a willingness to defend after the break, turned one first-half goal into the full result.

Match Statistics

The numbers underlined how one-sided the territory was and how little it paid. Corinthians SP held 62 percent of possession to Santos SP's 38 and outshot the visitors 16 to 7, with eight corners to one. The problem was quality: only one of those 16 attempts was on target, against four for Santos, and expected goals ran 0.72 to 1.01 in the away side's favor. Both teams finished with three yellow cards and no reds, a physical but contained contest that never opened up after the first goal.
