Estudiantes de La Plata and CA Newell's Old Boys finished 0-0 in Liga Profesional, with the home side controlling the ball and the shooting but never finding a goal.

Match Summary

Estudiantes de La Plata set the terms early at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi. CA Newell's Old Boys saw little of the ball and spent the opening spell defending. There was no early goal, and the first half closed without a booking as well. Newell's reached the interval still level at 0-0.

After the restart the same pattern held. L. Gonzalez Pirez went into the book in the 55th minute, the first caution of the night, while Estudiantes kept the territorial edge. The visitors rarely threatened. L. Gomez was shown a yellow card in the 88th minute, late enough that it changed nothing about the shape of the game. The official score stayed 0-0.

Key Moments

The night turned on Estudiantes' inability to turn control into a lead. Six corners to none showed how often the hosts won the wide areas, yet none of those set pieces produced a goal. Newell's main return was the clean sheet, because they created so little of their own. Both yellow cards left 11 against 11, so there was never a numerical swing that might have forced a late winner.
