Hajduk Split defeated Ajax 2-1 in the Liga Conferência after restoring their lead within two minutes of being pegged back. The home side were in front at half-time, briefly drawn level after the restart, and then back ahead before the contest could settle at 1-1.

Match Summary

Neither side scored through the first half hour. Hajduk Split then found the opening they needed late in the first half. Abdoulie Sanyang put them ahead after 37 minutes, and they took that 1-0 lead into the interval. Alberto del Moral was shown a yellow card in first-half stoppage time as the home side closed the period still in front.

The second half opened with a rapid exchange. Ajax were level in the 53rd minute through Davy Klaassen, wiping out the deficit Hajduk Split had carried from the first half. The visitors' foothold lasted two minutes. Marin Soticek scored in the 55th minute, putting Hajduk Split back in front at 2-1, and that remained the official score. Michele Sego was booked in the 60th minute. Hajduk Split managed the closing half hour without conceding again, and Ajax did not add a second goal.

Key Moments

The two-minute spell after Ajax drew level was the swing of the match. Hajduk Split's almost immediate reply meant the visitors never had time to play from a 1-1 scoreline, and the night stayed with the home team from that point. Going in a goal up at the break also mattered, because Ajax started the second half a goal down rather than from a blank scoreline. Two yellow cards for Hajduk Split, including one in first-half stoppage time, never reduced them to ten players, and Ajax finished without a booking.

Match Statistics

The numbers lined up with a narrow home win. Hajduk Split outshot Ajax 14 to 12 and were sharper in front of goal, putting eight attempts on target to four. Expected goals followed that pattern, 1.8 against 1.15. Corners went slightly to Ajax, five to four. Both yellow cards belonged to Hajduk Split, and neither team was shown a red card.
