Hamburger SV were beaten 0-5 by Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, a one-sided contest in which the visitors scored twice before half-time and three times after it. Phillip Tietz found the net twice, and the hosts never replied.

Match Summary

Mainz 05 did not need the ball to take charge. Sheraldo Becker had them in front after 19 minutes, Kaishu Sano with the assist, and the hosts were already chasing. Anthony Caci was booked for the visitors just after the half-hour, and Zakaria El Ouahdi was cautioned for Hamburger SV five minutes later.

Phillipp Mwene made it two before the interval, Becker the provider this time. The restart offered no relief. Phillip Tietz scored three minutes into the second half, again from Becker, and the gap was already three.

The hosts held more of the possession as the half went on but rarely threatened. Tietz added his second in the 83rd minute, Lee Jae-Sung with the assist, before Ransford Konigsdorffer finished in the 90th minute from Phillipp Mwene. Mwene had been booked five minutes earlier, and Becker collected a yellow in stoppage time.

Key Moments

The opener mattered because Hamburger SV had to chase from a relatively early stage and never found a way back into the scoreline. The spell around the interval was decisive. Two goals in a short window turned a deficit into a collapse, and the second half became an exercise in damage limitation. Mainz 05 stayed clinical when Hamburger SV still had the majority of the ball, which is why the margin grew rather than shrank. Discipline stayed intact on both sides, with yellow cards only and no dismissals to change the numbers.

Match Statistics

Hamburger SV finished with 56 percent of possession and almost nothing to show for it. They managed eight shots and only one on target. Mainz 05 took 15 shots, seven of them on target, and edged the corners 5-4. Yellow cards ran one for the hosts and three for the visitors. Neither side saw a red card.

What the Result Means

Hamburger SV sit 17th in the Bundesliga, with no points from one match and a goal difference of minus two. FSV Mainz 05 are 12th, on one point from one match and a goal difference of zero. The two sides are a point apart.
